On Sunday, May 20, the South American country of Venezuela will go ahead with a controversial presidential election that some say will give President Nicolas Maduro only a thin veneer of legitimacy. The expected outcome, re-election of a leader accused of being undemocratic and authoritarian, has been rejected by several Latin American countries and Europe.
