Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that allows foreigners to serve in the Russian army.

The document states that soldiers who are foreign nationals involved in the tasks under martial law, and in armed conflicts in accordance with universally recognized principles and norms of international law, international treaties and laws of Russia. However, a prerequisite for such a service is of Russian language.

This contract may not be awarded to an alien who is under investigation or court which has outstanding conviction or sentence of imprisonment.
